The Hungarian Parliament's neo-Gothic façade — 268 metres of limestone and 88 statues — was wired for floodlighting in 1985, two years before the Chain Bridge received its own tungsten wash. The illuminated riverfront they traverse was designated a UNESCO World Heritage panorama in 1987, a decade before most of the current lighting rigs were installed. The result is a curated theater of architecture — Baroque, neo-Renaissance, Secession, Brutalist — staged for an audience that moves at six knots and eats in the dark.
